Mt Everest

Mount @ Everest:

According to the geological survey,Everest was formed about 60 million years ago. Elevation of the Everest is 29,035 (8850m)-found to be 6' higher in 1999. In Nepal, it is called Sagarmatha which means goddess of the sky. In Tibet which is in the north part Everest it is called Chomolungma: (means: mother goddess of the universe). It is named after the British surveyor-general of Sir George Everest in 1865 Sir George Everest.

Once known as Peak 15 . It was once known as peak 15 too. Its geographical location is Latitude 27° 59' N.....Longitude 86° 56'. It's summit ridge seperates Nepal and Tibet. In May 29,1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary, NZ and Tenzing Norgay, NP, through the South Col Route step on the top of the world. First Solo Ascent was made in Aug. 20,1980 bReinhold Messner, IT, through the NE Ridge to North Face. First winter Ascent was made in Feb. 17,1980 by L.Cichy and K. Wielicki. James Whittaker was the first American to step on everest on May 1,1963. Sir George Everest was the first person to record the height and location of Mt. Everest, this is where Mt."Everest" got its name from(In american language) . Junko Tabei was the first women to ascent on Everest through South-Col on May 16,1975. First oxyenless ascent was made by Reinhold Messner, IT, and Peter Habeler through the South-East Ridge in May 8, 1978.

First woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest from both north & south sides was Cathy O'Dowd (S.A.) from South on May 25,1996 and from North on'99.Fastest Ascent from South was made by Babu Chhiri Sherpa 34, of Nepal in 16 hours and 56 minutes time on 5-21-2000.

Temba Tsheri of Nepal was the Youngest person to climb on Everest on May,22,2001when he was 15 years old.Sherman Bull was the Oldest Person to climb on Everest on May,25,2001 when he was 64 yrs.Erik Weihenmeyer was the First Legally Blind Person to climb on everest on May,25,2001. 1993, 129 summitted and eight died (a ratio of 16:1); in 1996, 98 summitted and 15 died (a ratio of 6½:1). 24th May 2000 Appa Sherpa became the first person to climb Everest 11 times, Rita Sherpa, Babu Chiri Sherpa all ascents were oxygen-less. 46 Nepali people had died till now while climbing the Everest.Most dangerous area on mountain is Khumbu Ice Fall19 deaths. Babu Chiri Sherpa stayed at the summit full 21 hours and a half. In 1975, China tackled Everest with a 410-member team. In 1988, Jean-Marc Boivin of France descended from the top in just 11 minutes, paragliding. Kushang Sherpa, now an instructor with Himlayan Mountaineering Institute is only climber to climb all 4 sides of Everest.First person to hike from sea level to summit without oxygen was Tim Macartney-Snape(Australian) on 11th May 1990

On May 10, 1993 (40) largest number to reach the top in one day. Nawang Gombu-Nepal(once with Whitaker in '63,and again two years later in '65)Gombu now works for the Himalayan mountaineering institute was the first person to summit Everest twice.The oldest woman to summit was Anna Czerwinska on May 22, 2000.
